Back yard ponds may contain a variety of items, from fish to rocks. But one very important ingredient will be your water lilies. Water lilies come in a variety of colors and styles. They are as diverse as the back yard pond you find them in.
On this page you will find different water lily pictures taken in different locations. Just click on the small thumbnail and a larger image will pop up. You can download these larger images by right clicking and choosing the "save image as" option.
Your choice of options will vary depending on your operating system and the browser that you use. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Sally here.
Let's begin this tour of water lilies with the Pink Sensation Water Lily. This one is a favorite among pond owners. These particular pictures were taken in my Mom's back yard.
I took several different angles of the last lily of the season. Everyone at home was surprised to see a lily blooming in October. The middle picture is just a small sample of the fun you can have with photo editing software after you have your picture at home.
If you are looking for the perfect picture to brighten up your home, this 20 X 16 poster is the answer. I have even added the energy of love to this one. Think of how good you feel when every time you pass this pink sensation you are told that you are loved.
Finding the perfect water lily picture can be an adventure. These three pictures were taken at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois. You can find them growing there in the Fragrance Garden where there is a lovely water pond. I was surprised when I saw what looked like hyacinths growing on the water.
A little research revealed that these are indeed Water Hyacinghs. They would make a nice conversation plant for your pond.
The first two pictures in this row are the same water pond at the Arboretum. You can see how the pond is surrounded by stones. And notice those tiny pink flowers growing in a flower pot that is emerged just under the surface of the water. These pictures were taken later in the summer. When the pond is in full bloom, the leaves cover the pot.
And if these water lily pictures have you wishing for a water garden of your own, let me recommend Your Garden Ponds Center. This picture was donated by David at Your Garden Ponds Center. David's site focuses on garden ponds information and design ideas. For an excellent source of garden ponds instructions and know how, be sure and check out.
The pink water lilies in this gallery were grown by my brother in WV. Chet took on the project of putting in a garden pond for our mom a couple of years ago.
Each year he stocks it with fish. Some of those fish have even survived a couple of winters in this little back yard pond.
The last water lily picture in this row is a pink water lily greeting card. Greeting cards are for more than holidays; they are a great way to express yourself and to keep in touch with friends and family. A personal note on a beautiful card will make a lasting impression and a touching keepsake. Cards are 5X7 and include envelope. You will even be able to add your note at checkout. Just click the card in the picture for more information.
I recently got an email from a reader asking me to identify a picture of a flower he had taken. The picture he sent me was the Pink Sacred Lily on the left in this row. I was fortunate enough to find one just like this flower and sent him a link. In my reply I asked permission to share his beautiful water lily picture with my readers. He not only gave me permission for one but included a second along with his story of how he came to take these lotus flower pictures. You can read his story belog. Thank you Ken for sharing.
Dear Ms. Stoneking,
You have surely blessed my day! That link opened to a photo of the same flower I photographed near Narragansett, RI. I knew it was the same flower when I saw that there was a hard brownish looking growth that almost resembles a shower head in the foreground. When the flowers fall off, the "shower head" on a stem is what remains. Thank you so very much.
And per your request, I grant you permission to use the photo of my discovery of "Nelumbo nucifera" AKA "Sacred Water Lily" on your website. It was discovered in August, while my wife and I were vacationing in Rhode Island. Much of my time while on vacation is spent looking for natural images to photograph.
That particular morning, was proving to be a total washout, nothing was catching my eyer; when at last I passed the little grotto where the lillies were growing. I shot dozens of angles, but I was concerned because it was near noon, and the worst time of the day to take pictures is when the sun is high.
So, you guessed it; the next morning, I got up early and drove about 15 miles to return to the site of the "Sacred Water Lilies", which for me, capturing that photo came close to being a sacred event, So, by all means, please use the photograph. In fact, I am attaching another lilly from the same site, feel free to use either or both.
You have been a great help and blessing.
Peace, Ken
Of all the different water flowers and plants available to enjoy, these wildflower plants deserve at least honorable mention. The true name of these plants is Arrowhead. One look at the leaves and you know where that name came from. These water flowers grow along the lake at Herrick.
These flowers grow in pond areas and shallow water throughout Northeastern/North-central North America according to Peterson Field Guide's. There are many varieties from broad to narrow leafed arrowheads. They bloom from July to October. The leaves are so abundant that you may miss the pretty little flowers underneath.
