Even turtles like a little affection. This turtle is about five years old in this picture. My brother had him from the time he was a baby. In the first picture he is raising up to get a pet and in the second picture he is eating dinner.
Did you know that these turtles can live to be a hundred years old. The turtle on the end looks like he may have been around that long. This picture was taken from a bridge. He was swimming down the river. Quite impressive size, don't you think. This guy looked to be pretty old.
The last turtle in this row was swimming down the Dupage river as we were walking. I took the photograph from above while I stood safely on the bridge. Have you ever looked in a river and thought you saw something but you just were not sure? Well that is what happened here. He was so far away that my zoom lens really doesn't do him justice.

In turtle pile-up I had so much fun with these guys. We were walking around the lake at the Arboretum and noticed out in the middle of the lake this pile of turtles. Seems they all wanted a piece of this floating log. And one had even fallen off onto it's back as I was taking the picture.
The turtles at Herrick Lake sometimes have issues. This fellow is covered on his shell with the algae he had to swim through to get to his log. When I took this picture he looked as if he was losing his footing.
Last year they cleaned all of the scum from the top of this lake. And it looked good for a couple of months. I guess the water is fairly stagnant which makes it more of a swamp than a lake. You may notice in many of my pictures from this lake there is a lot of algae on top of the water.
These last photo is the head of sea turtle. This year the theme for art students must have been under the sea. Everywhere we walked in the downtown area you were sure to see a turtle, dolphin or mermaid. That was a fun summer. Every year Riverwalk parks will feature local artists work based on a theme. Last years theme was ocean life. Tortoises seemed to be a favorite and the talent of these artists is amazing.
