Spider Lily Without Leaves Maybe

Mystery Lily

Can you identify this lily? Spider Lily comes to mind when you see it. But there are no leaves on the stalk at all. The flowers are beautiful and look like this type of lily. I would love to hear what you think.

My husband found the bulb next to the creek that runs in the woods behind our house. There has never been a house on the property that we live on. So, we guessed that the bulb must have washed down from someone's place years ago.

We think it might be some type of lily because it looks similar to a spider lily.

Thanks,

Steve & Lisa

Note from Sally:

When I received this question I did a little research online for "leafless spider lily". Here is what I found:

This bulb produces leaves that fall off in early spring. Flowers will appear after a heavy rain in August or September and so this flower is named Hurricane Lily, Spider Lily, Surprise lily...

The site was an education site talking about lilies natural to Florida. I'm not sure of Steve and Lisa's location.
