Clearing up royalty free images questions, like how to find what you need. See how to save time and money using royalty free photos.
You've finally decided to take the plunge and build an online business. You know what you love and it isn't taking pictures.
Your passion is gardening but when you try taking pictures of your flowers they just don't come out as pretty as the ones you've seen on the internet.
Photography has just never been your bag. When your readers tell you they would like to see some pictures, you wish that you could take better photographs.
Here is a way to spruce up any web site. You don't have to spend hours learning to take good photographs. There are tons of royalty free photos online that you can use to make your site look more visually attractive.
Start by doing a search for the term "royalty free images" or photos. That search alone will result in over 9 million search results.
Now you could just click on the first link or two and look around. You can expect to find prices ranging from $1.00 for very small images and the price goes up from there. A little further down on the page you will see "free" stock photos.
The trick when using free images is to be sure and read the terms of use instructions that each site has. These terms may very a little. One thing almost every royalty free image distributor asks, is that you acknowledge where you got your photos from. But that is really not much to ask for the use of free images on your website.
Everyone benefits. Your readers can enjoy beautiful pictures, you get the pictures with very little work involved and the photographer who provided those royalty free images gets the recognition they deserver.
Let's take a quick look at what the term "royalty free" means. A royalty is the payment for use of property, in this case images, that hold a patent, copyright, franchise, or trademark rights to name a few.
You may have heard of this from artists and writers who receive a royalty for their creation.
Photographers and digital artists have the same rights. Royalties are usually paid as a percentage of sales made.
And so the "Free" in Royalty Free Images means you are not required to pay the artist a percentage of prophets. This is the reason why it is important to also read the Royaylty Free License" that comes with these free or low priced images you will be using.
There are a few limitations that you must abide by when using royalty free photos. Most of these limits involve the sales of the photograph itself. Therefore, it is important to at least glance over the royalty free license before using images that you download.
The most common limitation is the restriction of sale of the image itself. Here is a quote from my Royalty Free License which is pretty standard:
you are granted a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use and reproduce the images in printed materials, or any electronic or digital form. In the latter case, each image should be incorporated into a design in such a manner to make it clear that the image is not intended to be separately downloaded, copied, or distributed and the image size in use must be less than 800 pixels on the longest side.
You may not be able to sell these images for a profit but they do come with their own set of benefits.
You may have noticed throughout this article that I have flower images linking to Royalty Free Photos. I've put together a few packages of royalty free images myself. If you are looking for flower images for your site or other uses, I hope you will check them out. I've kept prices low and resolution high. Each image is only .33 cents.
