Share your thoughts, stories, questions, and pictures of lilies here.

There are times when readers come across different types of lilies. I may receive an email asking me why type of lily they have taken a picture of like Kenric from Conneticut who had an awesome picture of a Sacred Water Lily and an even more preciaus story to tell about it. And then there is Larissa from New Zealand who has a very exotic lily in her garden that she was kind enough to share with us. How about you? Share your story about different types of lilies here and you can have your own page on Nature And Flower Pictures.

Lily Pictures Galleries Begins With Lily Varieties, Water Lilies, And Tulip Pictures

Let's start the pictures of lilies off with Lily Varieties. How many varieties of lilies can there be? Well actually according to many sources there are about 110 species in the lilium family. Now you won't find them all in the pictures of lilies pages but you will find quite a few.

The water lily actually has a section all its own in the wildflower guides. These beautiful lotus flower pictures will brighten your day. Yes the lotus flower is a water lily. The picture you see here was taken in my mom's back yard. This was the last flower of the season to bloom and I think it came out just to get a chance to join the other lily pictures.

Take pictures of lilies from your own garden ponds with the help of Your Garden Ponds Center. David from Your Garden Ponds Center will be glad to help. David was also kind enough to submit a picture of one of his ponds. You can see it on the Water Lily Picture page.

His site focuses on garden ponds information and design ideas. By the time you have browsed the whole site you will be ready to have your very own garden pond complete with water lilies and more.

The last picture in this row is a tulip. You may think that tulip pictures don't belong on this page. But actually they are considered members of the lily family. I suppose this could be because of the fact that they are a bulb plant. I am really not sure how it is decided what family a flower belongs in. My passion is bringing you beautiful flower pictures in a variety of forms.

Pictures of Lilies Presents Wild Lilies, Iris Pictures

How do you determine if a lily is wild? It really is hard to tell these days. When I walk in the parks I see lilies growing wild all of the time. And they certainly don't look much different than the home garden variety. Will lilies revert to the wild state if left to their own? I suppose that is possible. Lilies are a flower that can be trusted to perform just as you expect them to year after year.

Meanwhile come on back and check out our Iris pictures. Iris flowers are also known as flags. Looking at the flag like flowers you can see why. They are a lovely member of the lily family and come in a wide variety of colors.

The calla lily flower is an awesome flower. They are often used to decorate borders around apartments. They do like a warmer climate though. You won't find them decorating a lot of gardens in Illinois. So lucky for us they make great indoor plants as well.

Pictures of Lilies Include Field Lilies, Canna Lilies and Hosta Plants

Field lilies look like dancing flowers as you watch them from a distance. They always seem to be leaning toward the sun. And they lean together. So they look like a chorus of dancing girls. I wonder if this is where the idea for those little dancing daisies came from?

Canna lilies are the exotic lily in the group. They look like they were plucked right off the Hawaiin Islands or maybe Tahiti. The first time I saw this flower was at the Riverwalk in downton Naperville, IL. That summer the whole town seemed to have a passion for Canna lilies.

Now the hosta plant is the border plant of choice here in Illinois. These lilies love the shade and grow well under trees or on the north facing side of your house. They are easy to care for like most of the lily family.

A Few Ideas for using these pictures of lilies

  • scrap books - just print out your favorite lily picture and glue it in a scrap book page with a lily theme.
  • school projects - Many school projects could use a little help from a lily or two.
  • personal greeting cards - Greeting cards are the favorite place to use lily pictures.
  • personal presentations - Giving a presentation at work? Why not give it a little color and perk?

Pictures of Day Lilies, Daffodils And Other Lily Family Pictures

Daylilies, now that is a lily you can count on. They bloom from late spring to early fall. I have even seen them bloom on occasion up to late September. Do you know why they are called daylilies? You guessed it, the blooms are only good for a day. But there are so many flowers in a group you hardly notice this.

Daffodils are the forerunners in spring. When you start to see the daffodils blooming you know warm weather is on it's way. These bueaties usher in the Easter Season and other Feasts and celebrations. These flowers are also known as jonquils. But I think the jonquil variety are mostly white with an orange center. You'll find a few of both in this seciton.

And finally you can enjoy a few more members of the lily family. When I was researching, I was surprised at some of the flowers included in the lily family. Like the allium in this picture. It is also a member of the onion family which is of course a member of the lily family. This must be where we get the idea for cousins and second cousins, huh?

Attention Cat Lovers!

Warning! I recently received a comment from a concerned reader about lilies. Did you know that lilies are highly poisonous to cats?

Here is the email I received with some useful links to more information about the effects of lilies on cats.

Dear Nature and Flower Pictures-Team,

I love lilies, I love the sweet, sweet smell, Easter Lilies in particular.

BUT about 5 minutes ago I found out that lilies are extremely poisonous for cats. It scared me so much that I immediately threw away a bunch of flowers and lilies I just got a couple of days ago.

Please include a warning on your website to let cat owners know about the dangers!

I attached links to some articles explaining more about this.
