These pictures of deer were taken at Canaan Valley in West Virgirnia. I recently received pictures from my sister that her daughter took while on vacation at this beautiful resort.
Canaan Valley is a very popular ski resort. People travel from all over to ski here. The rolling hills of WV are too awesom to pass by. But since I don't ski, I had never been there. After I saw the pictures of deer that my niece took, I knew I had to go.
The next picture you see a curious deer looking to see who else is coming along. They show absolutely no fear of humans. Do you suppose they know there is a no hunting policy at the park?
The last picture in this row shows a young doe grazing in the grass. There a so many beautiful sites to take pictures of the hardest choice you will have is picking which picture to take and which to keep. This picture was contributed by my sister and I suspect she had her camera set to cartoon effect that day. Take a look at the bigger picture and see if you don't agree.
Downloading these deer pictures to your computer is very easy. When you click the link below the thumbnail a window pops up with the larger image. You can right click this larger picture and make your choices from the drop down menue. Choose "save image" or "download image". Choices may vary depending on your browser and computer.
On Mac your choices may look like this. Save image to "Download", Use Image as Desktop Picture (this choice puts the picture as a compter background) or Save Image As... Now if you see those three dots ... after a choice it usually means you will be making other choices as well. In this case, for example, you will see a pop up window. In there you can pick the file to put your picture in. You can even rename your picture. The least you need to do is make a note of the folder your picture is going to as well as the name that I have given it.
One other option for downloading the pictures of deer is to simply right click the link. From the pop up menue make the best choice for you. Again choices vary with type of browser and computer.
As I said above it is against park policy to feed the deer. You can be asked to leave if you are caught feeding them. In this first picture it looks like this hand is breaking the rules. But he isn't. You see the deer is licking his hand. Apparently they like the salt. Maybe that is why they like us humans so much:)
And talk about liking us humans. My sister got a really close picture as this curious doe tried to kiss her cheek. How many opportunities will you have in a lifetime to kiss a deer?
The last picture in this row was taken by my niece or her husband. This picture was one of the ones that got my interest in visiting the park a month later.
Michelle pets this young doe as if it were a dog. I have actually seen some dogs that were this big.
These pictures were taken around September. My visit was the next month in October. The deer are plentiful and I have to wonder, is this place their safe haven. They are protected here. But strangely enough they are off to unprotected territory very shortly.
On a lighter note the last picture in this row is an example of what we can do with these modern digital cameras and photo editing software. My sister used the cartoon effect in her photo editing software to create this effect. Next are some more art effects you can achieve.
This first picture is a pencil sketch drawing effect. I took a photo and used Paint.net to create this sketch. Paint.net is an excellent tool for PC users who enjoy creating art from their photos.
The next picture I used the Sepia effect. This effect is available in almost every photo editing software out there. You really don't have to do anything else to make a picture look antiqued. It brings a different quality to your pictures. You could actually take the pictures you download from this site and give them this sepia effect.
Now the last picture is not an example of digital art I know. This is a buck that my sister shot and had mounted last year. It hangs proudly in their living room. I have to say that this is not my favorite form of decoration. Never had the courage to shoot one of these beautiful creatures. I guess I'm just not the hunter type. But for those of you who are, I salute you.
This is the time of year that deer seem to abound. I often wonder when I see them in the park or even crossing the road if they are coming out to make their yearly offering to the two leggeds.
Today driving home from the local dog park I spotted a buck and a doe on the side of the road. I wasn't quick enough to get a picture. Lucky for us though, my friend Nicole had this cool shot to share. she took the picture from her kitchen window.
I don't know which of us is luckier. We are because she was kind enough to share. But wouldn't it be wonderful to live in an area close enough to see a deer out your kitchen window?
I love this time of year when the deer come out to play. But I must confess that the only shooting I do is with my handy Canon Powershot camera. So if we are counting lucky stars I would have to say that I am the luckiest of them all. Why, you ask? Well I get to make my living with an online business by sharing my passion with the world.
