Nature Pictures from Parks in IL, VA, and WV

These nature pictures that include acorns, mushrooms, pine cones, squirrels, and berries just to name a few. You will even find a chipmunk picture too.

This page contains 16 beautiful pictures for you to enjoy and share with friends and family. If you would like to use the images on your own website all I ask is that you link back to us. For complete and easy download instructions click here

Acorn Nature Images

The best time to gather acorns is before the squirrels and chipmunks take them all away. I came accross a small oak tree at the Blackwell Forest Preserve park entrance. So I was able to get this close-up of acorns still growing on the branch.

Then as we walked along the path I found the perfect oak leaf and some loose acorns to make this picture on my desk at home. It is said that acorns are a symbol of abundance. And it is supposed to be good luck to carry an acorn in your pocket.

I do know that just looking at those tiny acorns will bring visions of the mighty Oak trees that they come from. The park had an abundance of acorns this year. Lots of food for our furry friends.

Chipmunks and Squirrels

The second picture in this set is a chipmunk climbing onto a trunk at the Riverwalk Park in Naperville. He was curious to see who was walking there. He didnt stay long. I also have another picture of a chipmunk on the wall. You can see him and more in our Free Nature Wallpaper section section.

The other pictures in this group are squirrels playing in the park. Squirrels and chipmunks both love to store acorns for the winter. This is a bountiful time of year for them. Read more about squirrels and their habits on our Pictures of Squirrels page.

Pine Cone Pictures

Pine cones make wonderful nature pictures. They have their own unique design. The first two pictures in this set are of pine cones hanging in the trees. The last one is one of a collection some local students were gathering for a school project. Remember when we used to make crafts and art with pine cones in school?

Wild Berries Nature Pictures

This first picture is of wild grapes found at Blackwell Forest Preserve. The grapes look good enough to eat, don't they? I would rather leave the berries for the many bird species there to eat though.

Nature takes care of all of the creatures. I love to watch as the birds feed on wild berries that grow in our front yard. The green berries on this tree make a wonderful close-up picture. It is almost as lovely as the spring flowers on the trees. Check out the flower blossoms in our Scenic Wallpaper section.

Mushroom Nature Pictures

Finally on this page is a collection of mushroom pictures. What would summer be like without them. As you can see there is a wide variety of mushrooms growing along the paths we walk.

I took these pictures at different stages and different times of the year. There is just something nice and cushiony about mushrooms. The prettiest fungus I have ever seen.

I was never an expert on identifying mushrooms. People who study mushrooms are known as mycologists. There are many factors that go into the proper identification of mushrooms.

Even though some mushrooms are edible, there are many that are poisenous to eat. I do not have the knowledge to say which mushrooms are safe to eat. The safest place to find edible mushrooms is in your local groceries produce department. But they do make lovely pictures.

These pictures were taken in the local forest preserves and parks here in northern illinois. Be sure and check out some of the beautiful Scenic Pictures page for even more beautiful nature pictures.
