Nature lovers enjoy the butterfly weed for it's brilliant reddish orange color. But perhaps their greatest attraction is the multitude of butterflies feeding on them.
The name of this flower is well earned because so many of these insects are attracted to it. You might see a different kind of butterfly each time you visit a field of wild flowers.
On the day I took these pictures, there was only these brown and gold butterflies. But tiny cabbage butterflies, Swallowtails, Monarchs and more all feed on this flower.
This flower is a member of the milkweed family. Kids delight in squeezing the milky juice from the stems. And in the fall you will find seed pods full of silky seeds ready to carry on the next generation.

I counted six of these butterflies feeding on this small cluster of flowers growing in my Mom's garden. She loves gathering wild flowers to place around her garden. And I am delighted to have this opportunity to capture both butterflies and flower pictures with my Canon Camera.
