You may recall when I first started this section that I wasn't sure where to find butterflies for pictures. Remember how I told you that my sisters rewarded me with many surpises after that of butterflies they captured in their own back yard or on walks in the neighborhood.

Here is an idea you could use with your free butterfly pictures. You could easily take a butterfly picture and trace the wings to create angels for your scrapbooks or albums.
This first butterfly is a small cabbage white butterfly. They are quite common around here in Northern Illisnois. You can probably capture one landing on a flower or leaf every time you leave the house in the right season of the year.
The next one is a Northern Blue Butterfly. I only know this because I looked it up. It certainly isn't blue. You can imagine it took me quite a bit of searching to find out what kind of butterfly this is. Funny when I was taking the picture I was surprised to find that white butterfly turn into a brown one. I wrote a little story about it on my photo blog if you would like to read more about how this butterfly picture taught me a lesson in patience. Also notice that the picture at the top of this page. Those are the two images that I shot that day, one with wings open and one closed. Hard to believe it's the same butterfly, isn't it?
Finally in this row is a tiny orange butterfly. I've only seen one of these and I can't seem to find it's name anywhere. So if you come up with a name for this one, please let me know.
This orange butterfly seems to really be enjoying the sun and that pink echinacea flower.
That middle butterfly picture was taken outside of the library in California. We had taken the kids to the library for their weekly book hunt and wandering on the grounds outside I captured this beauty.
The last picture in this row will actually take you to a whole page of butterfly mousepads, sure to be a favorite for all you butterfly lovers out there. This particular brown butterfly appears to be a buckeye family. I'm not sure. He was a late bloomer as you can tell by the fallen leaves he posed on to get his picture taken.
The first picture in this last row is a black butterfly that must like milk. At least it is a milkweed plant stem that he is hugging in this picture. I'm not sure what butterflies eat. Do you know?
The guy in the middle decided to check out a slice of bread that my mom had thrown out for the birds. I really don't think they like bread. It appeared to be a safe place to land at the time though. He even put on a little show of opening and closing his wings for me that late summer day.
And finally in this collection of butterfly pictures what better way to end the show for today than with a set of mounted butterflies. My sister in WV collects them and uses them as part of her education for her two boys.
Do you have a great story about butterflies? Are they landing on your favorite butterfly bush? Pictures of butterflies are nice but how did you capture them on camera? Share it!
