Bird of Paradise Pictures

Some time ago I had a request for bird of paradise pictures on my site.  At the time I had really never even seen one.  And truthfully I did not know what to look for if I did.  But then on a visit to California and the grandchildren I had occasion to see my first bird of paradise flower.

When you look at these pictures you can easily see where the name comes from.  Don't they look like birds resting on a branch.  They are also known as crane flowers.  Can you see the long crane neck in these pictures.  I hope  enjoy these bird of paradise pictures and let me know what you think, please.

Since this page is about one flower there is no need for individual descriptions. What we have here are bird of paradise pictures in just about every angle you would like to see.  I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I did taking them.

These pictures were taken in late October.  It is one of those times when you have got to love California weather.  While back east I know my family is wishing for nicer days, I know my daughter in California is thankful for the warmth and sunshine.

The Bird of Paradise is native to South Africa.  They do like a temperate climate.  Their botanical name is Strelitzia reginae.  You can find an excellent article about these flowers on Wikipedia.

Choosing The Right Camera

When it comes to taking nature and flower pictures, you are given many options. I use the Canon PowerShot A510 digital camera to take the pictures on this site.  This camera is considered the low end of digital cameras.  But since it was my first experience with digital I wanted to start small and work my way up.

My next adventure in camera shopping will surely be with Canon.  For me the Canon camera seems to be the easiest to learn and maintain.  If you are thinking about making the jump to a new digital camera, let me recommend a Canon.
