I remember as a kid we used to pile the leaves up so high the towered over our heads.  Of course being kids, that didn't have to be too high.  Then we would run and jump and scream and laugh till that pile was crushed to bits.

But then we grew a little older and the raking of autumn leaves became one of our chores.  Funny how changing the title and reason for doing something takes all of the joy out of it.  Then we fought over whose turn it was to rake those leaves.  

We were too big to jump in them anymore.  So they had become something in the way of more important things. 

Then we discovered we could make money if we raked other peoples leaves.  Now that made them all the more fun again.  And it was tempting to shake the trees so the autumn leaves would cover the ground sooner!
